Saturday, 06 April 2024 | PNS | Lucknow

Gonda Nagar Palika Parishad chairperson and Samajwadi Party leader Uzma Rashid was arrested by the police on Friday.

She is accused of fraudulently getting enemy property land registered in her name.

The police have tightened the noose around the nagar palika chairperson after she failed to get relief from the High Court. She was called for interrogation on Friday afternoon and later taken into custody.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Vinay Singh said that the Nagar Kotwali police had arrested SP leader and nagar palika chairperson Uzma Rashid, who was absconding in a case of enemy property.

She was earlier put under house arrest at her residence in Gonda, where she was being questioned by the investigating officer of the case.

He said that after interrogation, the police arrested Uzma Rashid and took her to the district hospital for her medical check-up. She was later sent to jail.

Reports said that an assistant registrar (kanungo) of Sadar Tehsil in Gonda had filed a case against the nagar palika chairperson in Nagar Kotwali on March 16.

He alleged that Gonda nagar palika chairperson Uzma Rashid was illegally occupying the land of enemy property in Rakabganj locality.

Not only this, it is alleged that the chairperson misused her position and got the enemy property land registered in her name with the help of forged documents.

Regarding this, District Magistrate Neha Sharma directed strict action against the accused. To avoid arrest, Uzma Rashid had knocked the doors of the High Court, but after the appeal was rejected, the police moved ahead and arrested her on Friday afternoon.

Further investigations are on against her.
