The first day of the HR Conclave at SAIL-MTI witnessed creative and innovative deliberations from luminaries of Public & Private enterprises from different parts of India.
Amarendu Prakash, Chairman, SAIL appreciated the auspiciousness of the occasion as the HR fraternity had just celebrated the International HR day on 20th May. In this presidential address he opined that HR has been the best resource through ages. Whereas, other resources including Technology, can be bought today, but not talent & HR. One may pay for them, but can’t ensure the best out of the human capital without a profound HR intervention. 

Quoting the legendary management consultant Peter Drucker “Culture eats strategy for breakfast”, he underscored that a powerful and empowering culture was a surer route to organisation’s holistic success. People should feel empowered to change the culture. He opined that the time has come for a transition from JUDGE to NUDGE. Whereas, former alludes having a Judgmental culture which at times dampens the harmony in an organization; a continuous NUDGE from the peers with feedback shall actualize the potential and performance of the employee reflecting company’s bottom-line. He beaconed for the triumvirate of Happy People, Capable People and Open People.

KK Singh, Director (Personnel), SAIL set the tone of the conclave by referring to the recent HR centric schemes introduced in SAIL namely Work from Other than Workplace (WoW), Shabaash Scheme, Career Customization, ePathshala scheme etc. which evince that today HR has been infused in the very fabric of SAIL. He opined that the vicissitudes of the market can only be thwarted by inspiring the talent reservoir within SAIL. He urged for an informal learning ambience within any organization so that drops of Wisdom can percolate to the lowest strata at the shop floor in a Just-In-Time Learning mode, which embeds seamlessly in work culture and thus is a game changer.

B.S. Popli, ED(HR), SAIL, New Delhi welcomed the august gathering of HR professionals of all SAIL Units along with Key External Stakeholders and informed that every year this conclave shall be held with a relevant theme.

Executive Directors from other SAIL Units  Asish Chakraborty, ED(SSO & MTI), Rajan Prasad, ED (P&A, Bokaro), Tarun Mishra, ED (HR), RSP, SK Verma, ED (CET), Ved Prakash, ED (SDTD), SK Kar, ED (RDCIS) graced the occasion.

Ayushi Kumari, HR Specialist, TATA Steel gave a threadbare presentation of the state-of-art HR practices adopted globally by TATA steel integrating AI inference engines in all major facets of HR.

Sanjay Kumar, GM (Business Planning) presented SAIL’s business plan vis-à-vis the role of HR in its success. He underscored the indispensability of HR in the futuristic Industry 5.0.

Ashish Kaul, Director at Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) scintillated the ambience with some breathtaking Quizzing.

Siddharth Ravishankar, Partner – Boston Consulting Group(BCG) briefed the audience with the impeccable modern day HR practices at BCG. He emphasized on Diversity and Inclusiveness as the major planks of HR and how skits organized in organizations are underscoring their importance.

The cornerstone of the Day 1 program was a panel discussion comprising KK Singh, Vinay Ranjan, Director  (Personnel & IR), CIL, KS Shetty, Director(HR), HPCL and Dr. G Jawahar, ED(HR), PFC well moderated by Siddharth Ravishankar. All esteemed panelists underscore the value and importance of HR with changing time and social ambience.

The keynote event of today was a fireside chat by one of India’s most iconic HR leaders Prabir Jha and Professor Charu Malhotra, IIPA, moderated by Sanjay Dhar, CGM(HR-L&D), MTI.
