Sufia S/o Farukh Khan is a resident of village Rehta Khurd on Magardha Road, 5 km away from Harda.

Sufiya is 9 years old and a student of class 3. Sufia had lost her sight since last 4 years. Earlier there was itching in his eyes, due to rubbing eyes, his vision deteriorated rapidly. Sufia also started having difficulty in reading and writing. Unfortunately he became total blind and was not able to see anything.

His father consulted an ophthalmologist at Harda but he did not find significant change in the vision of his son. Later, the optometrist of the Vision Center run by Sewa Sadan Hospital in Harda suggested Farukh to take his son to Sewa Sadan Eye Hospital based at Sant Hirdaram Nagar.

Sufiya's eyes were examined by cornea specialist Dr. Prerna Upadhyay at Sewa Sadan Eye Hospital and it was found that both his corneas were damaged and now there could be no treatment except cornea transplantation.

Dr Prerna transplanted the cornea of child Sufia's left eye five months ago. Sufia benefited very much from this surgical procedure, and now he has regained his lost vision and started going to school. Sufia and his parents are now very happy. Child Sufiya's grandparents and great-grandparents are also alive. Sufia's entire family is very happy with the sight of his eyes, he is the only son of his parents.

Farukh works as a mason in building construction and earns an average of Rs 15,000 per month. Due to loss of eyesight the child's life was at stake and his studies had come to a halt. The entire family was worried about how this child would grow up and be able to earn bread and butter in his life. Dr Prerna Upadhyaya has transplanted the cornea of child Sufia's left eye and made him capable of seeing the beautiful world of nature.

Therefore, the entire family including Sufia's grandparents and great-grandparents are thankful to almighty Allah, Sewa Sadan Eye Hospital and Dr. Prerna Upadhyaya. STAFF REPORTER n BHOPAL
