The 71st Wildlife Week 2025, with the theme “Human-Animal Coexistence “, was inauguratedat the Assam State Zoo, Guwahati, by Chandramohan Patowary, Minister of Environment and Forests, Assam, with a traditional Hasti Pujan ceremony and shraddhanjali tothe Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi and beloved artist, Zubeen Garg, followed by plantation program.
As part of the program, twelve motorbikes were handed over to theGolaghat Forest Division by the Wildlife Areas Development And Welfare Trust, facilitated by Chairman Hiranya Kumar Choudhury, to strengthen frontline forest protection, in thepresence of M. K. Yadava, Special Chief Secretary (Forests) and Dr. Vinay Gupta, PCCF(Wildlife).
The inaugural event also announced a series of awareness and outreach activities including a drawing competition and quiz for school students on 3rd October and a birdwatching program and wildlife photography competition on 4th October, aimed atfostering public participation and strengthening the message of wildlife conservation across Assam.
