A striking 10-foot-tall sculpture titled As the Wind Rises, carved from a single block of pink Makrana marble, has become the new talking point at Bikaner House in the heart of the capital.
Created by renowned sculptor and Delhi Art Society president Neeraj Gupta, the 4.2-tonne monumental work. Crafted over eight months from marble sourced from Rajasthan’s Nagaur district, the sculpture features undulating waves at the base that rise into intertwined, swirling forms. Gupta describes it as “a metaphor for the eternal processes of creation, growth and transformation,” evoking cosmic energy, unity in diversity and the rhythm of life itself.” Art is fundamentally subjective,” Gupta said.
“Its purpose is to make people appreciate and remember a work with passion.” Blending contemporary abstraction with India’s rich sculptural heritage, As the Wind Rises is being hailed as a bold statement on the evolution of Indian art on global platforms.
The sculpture will remain on public display at Bikaner House daily until September 20, 2026.
