Farmers in Hry are not receiving payment for their crops on time: Selja

Sirsa: Senior Congress leader and Sirsa MP Kumari Selja on Sunday alleged that farmers in Haryana have to wait for several weeks to receive payment for their hard-earned crops. The government had earlier promised payment within 72 hours, but a sum of Rs 873 crore is still pending. She said: “The grain market operations have collapsed. Wheat heaps are rotting in the markets and the BJP Government is remaining a silent observer. There is chaos at every level — transportation, labour, and management — and yet, the government's insensitivity persists.”

 

Punjab Govt to Fully Compensate Fire-Affected Farmers: Sondh

Chandigarh: Punjab Cabinet Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sondh on Sunday visited Kaidupur village (Nabha) where a fire destroyed about 25 acres of wheat fields. Sondh assured farmers that the AAP Government will compensate all economic losses and cover the full treatment costs of an injured labourer, with Health Minister Dr Balbir Singh ensuring best care at PGI. He directed officials to expedite surveys and compensation, and emphasized awareness campaigns to prevent such incidents. “Punjab Government stands firmly with its farmers,” said Sondh.

 

Two agencies fined Rs 2.75-cr for poor waste disposal

Gurugram: The Municipal Corporation Gurugram (MCG) has imposed a Rs 2.75 crore penalty on two private agencies for failing to meet waste disposal targets at Bandhwari landfill. Haryana Urban Local Bodies Minister Vipul Goel, after inspecting the site on Satuday, had directed the agencies to dispose of 20,000 tons of waste daily within 10 days. Currently, the agencies are clearing only 2,000-3,000 tons. Adarsh Agency was fined Rs 96.30 lakh and Green Tech Rs 1.74 crore. Minister warned that future fines, including those from the National Green Tribunal, will be recovered from the agencies if targets are not met.

Chandigarh: Shoolini University’s theatre wing, Shoolini Creative Studio, enthralled audiences with Naatak Paracetamol — a lively adaptation of Molière’s classic ‘The Doctor in Spite of Himself’ — at Tagore Theatre on Sunday. Directed by Ankur Bashar, Assistant Professor of Performing Arts, the satirical play humorously critiques society’s blind faith in doctors and outdated norms. The energetic performance, rich in wit and sharp commentary, showcased the creative talents of Shoolini’s students, earning applause for its refreshing take on a timeless comedy.

 

India Fully Capable of Giving Tough Response to Terrorism: Arti Singh Rao

Chandigarh: Haryana Health Minister Kumari Arti Singh Rao on Sunday said that India, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, is fully capable of dealing with terrorism and traitors. She said that the Modi government is determined to eradicate terrorism from its roots and destroy hideouts sheltering anti-national elements. Describing terrorism as the biggest attack on humanity, Rao emphasized that India no longer just reacts but responds decisively to any challenge to its sovereignty with the harshest actions.

 

Gurugram Admin Issues Advisory Amid Rising Heatwave Risk

Gurugram: With temperatures soaring, the Gurugram District Administration on Sunday issued an advisory urging residents to take precautions against heat-related illnesses. Deputy Commissioner Ajay Kumar stressed the dangers of heatwaves, advising people to stay hydrated, wear light cotton clothing, avoid outdoor activities between 12 noon and 3 pm, and consume ORS, lassi, or lemon water. Residents are also urged to monitor weather updates and avoid leaving children in vehicles. Those experiencing dizziness, vomiting, or breathing issues should seek immediate medical help.

 

Halwara Airport Work 100% Complete: MP Arora

Ludhiana: Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora on Sunday announced that the long-pending Halwara Airport project in Ludhiana is now 100 percent complete, with the AAP Government allocating Rs 60 crore for its development. Arora, who visited the site with local residents, said that the airport — stalled for three decades — was delivered within three years under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. The airport, allotted the code “HWR”, will initially operate two flights connecting Ludhiana via Delhi to international destinations. The next AAI inspection is scheduled for April 30.

 

Shraddhanjali Yatra Honours Pahalgam Martyrs in Amritsar

Amritsar: Over 125 people joined the 'Shraddhanjali Yatra' at Company Garden, Amritsar, to pay tribute to Pahalgam martyrs. Organized by MaitriBodh Parivaar, the silent walk resonated with the spirit of unity under the slogan ‘Ek Bharat, Hum Bharat’. Participants honoured innocent lives lost to hatred, emphasizing healing through love. MaitriBodh Parivaar spokesperson highlighted the Yatra as a symbol of hope, unity, and resilience against growing societal divisions.

Advanced cardiac treatment techniques introduced

Chandigarh: Alchemist Hospital has introduced a suite of next-generation cardiac treatments, including calcium modulation techniques, transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), intravascular ultrasound (IVUS), and the event loop recorder procedure. The new techniques have enhanced the effectiveness of stent placement while reducing long-term complications, said Dr Rohit Parti, associate director of interventional cardiology.
