Delhi Labour Minister Kapil Mishra on Friday called the Centre’s decision to roll out the new Labour Codes that will reshape working conditions across the country. He said the move shows the Centre’s intent to provide stronger protection and dignity to India’s workforce.
Mishra said the new framework guarantees a minimum wage for all workers nationwide. He said mandatory appointment letters will bring clarity for young employees and reduce disputes. He added that equal pay for women will strengthen workplace equality.
The minister said Delhi will implement all major provisions soon. He said fixed-term employees will now be eligible for gratuity after one year of service.
This, he said, was a long-standing demand and will bring them closer to the benefits enjoyed by permanent staff.
Health measures form another key part of the codes, and workers above 40 will get a free annual health check-up. Mishra said early diagnosis can help prevent serious illnesses and reduce financial stress on families.
The minister said overtime wages will now be paid at double the rate, which he called a fair recognition of extra work. Workers in hazardous sectors will receive full health protection. According to him, this will create safer workplaces and reduce long-term risks.
Mishra said the reforms align India’s labour system with global standards. He said the codes aim to make the labour market more organised, competitive, and transparent.
He added that the measures will support economic growth by improving trust between workers and employers. He said the codes promise long-term welfare and social justice for workers across the country.
