In a bizarre incident in Tikamgarh district, a man demanded half of his deceased father's body following a dispute with his brother over the last rites, prompting police intervention. The incident occurred on Sunday in Lidhorataal village, approximately 45 km from the district headquarters.
According to Arvind Singh Dangi, in-charge of Jatara police station, 84-year-old Dhyani Singh Ghosh, who resided with his younger son Deshraj, passed away after a prolonged illness. Upon receiving news of his father's death, the elder son, Kishan, who lived outside the village, returned home. A dispute arose between the brothers regarding who would perform the last rites. Deshraj asserted that it was their father's wish for him to conduct the cremation, while Kishan insisted on performing the rites himself.
The argument escalated, with Kishan, reportedly under the influence of alcohol, demanding that their father's body be divided in half so both could perform separate cremations. Villagers alerted the police, who intervened to defuse the situation.
