Autism Awareness Day was celebrated with full enthusiasm and participation from entire Department of Pediatrics, AIIMS Bhopal. Professor (Dr) Ajai Singh, Executive Director AIIMS Bhopal said that it is imperative that we reflect not only on raising awareness but also on fostering understanding, acceptance, and inclusion for individuals on the autism spectrum. At AIIMS Bhopal, we recognize the unique strengths and challenges of individuals with autism and remain committed to providing comprehensive support and resources to ensure their well-being and full participation in society. Autism is not a barrier; it is a different way of experiencing the world. As we strive for a more inclusive society, let us celebrate the diversity of human experience and empower individuals with autism to thrive in their communities. Together, let us work towards a future where every individual, regardless of neurodiversity, is valued, respected, and given the opportunity to reach their full potential.
Large number of Undergraduate students participated in a Slogan competition on Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and Autism Awareness Day. For Nursing students and nursing officers a Poster competition was organized. To enrich the knowledge and perspective about Autism spectrum disorder a Post Graduate Quiz was conducted in the department. Awareness talks were also delivered by Prof. (Dr.) Shikha Malik, Head Department of Pediatrics and others at Pediatric OPD area about Prevalence of Autism, signs of early identification, red flags, characteristic impairment in social communication and social interaction and the presence of restricted interests and repetitive behavior.
Under the directions of Professor (Dr) Ajai Singh, Executive Director AIIMS Bhopal a Neurodevelopment Clinic is also running for such children every week on Friday between 2-4 pm and patients are provided multidisciplinary treatment.
