District authorities fortify checkpoints ahead of Lok Sabha elections

Monday, 25 March 2024 | PNS | Jamshedpur

In anticipation of the Lok Sabha General Elections 2024, district authorities have launched an intensive operation to secure inter-state and inter-district checkpoints. These efforts aim to safeguard the integrity of the electoral process by preventing the illicit transportation of contraband such as liquor, money, drugs, and other items that could potentially influence the outcome of the elections.

Led by the District Election Officer,  Ananya Mittal, and the Senior Superintendent of Police, 8 Kishore Kaushal, a comprehensive inspection was conducted at key checkpoints along the borders of Odisha and West Bengal. Specifically, the Mucharisol checkpoint bordering Odisha in the Gudabanda block, and the Darisol checkpoint bordering West Bengal in the Baharagora block were scrutinized.

These inspections are part of a broader strategy to maintain 24x7 surveillance at checkpoints throughout the district. Magistrates and police personnel have been deployed to conduct thorough checks of vehicles, both small and large, entering and exiting the district. The objective is to intercept any illegal goods or materials that could potentially disrupt the electoral process.

During the recent inspections, senior officials meticulously reviewed the vehicle inspection registers maintained by the deployed magistrates and police force. Emphasis was placed on the importance of conducting thorough inspections and taking immediate action upon the discovery of any objectionable material. Instructions were issued to confiscate such materials and promptly inform the district administration for further action.

Furthermore, directives were provided to ensure the proper maintenance of vehicle check registers to facilitate transparency and accountability in the inspection process. Additionally, police personnel were reminded of their responsibility to maintain law and order, with instructions to promptly relay any pertinent information to senior officers for appropriate action.

The inspection events witnessed the participation of a diverse array of officials, underscoring the collaborative effort between various administrative and law enforcement agencies. Present at the occasion were representatives from the Director NEP, DTO, SDM Ghatshila, Deputy Election Officer, District Public Relations Officer, BDO, CO, SDPO Ghatshila, Police Station Incharge, and other relevant officials.

In conclusion, these proactive measures demonstrate the commitment of district authorities to uphold the sanctity of the electoral process and ensure fair and transparent elections. By intensifying checkpoints and enforcing stringent inspection protocols, the district aims to thwart any attempts at electoral malpractice and safeguard the democratic rights of its citizens.
