Veteran BJP leader, Himachal former CM Shanta Kumar
Shimla: Expressing his anguish at the state of politics in the country, veteran BJP leader and Himachal Pradesh’s two-time Chief Minister Shanta Kumar on Sunday said that his party too has been swept in the wave. “We built Ram Mandir but simply constructing the Ram temple will not help, we must also follow his principles,” he said, apparently referring to his own party. Kumar's remarks come amidst the political turmoil in the hill state, with six Congress members breaking away and joining the BJP — an act which the Congress termed as part of a conspiracy by the BJP to topple the state government. “I am surprised. The politics of enslaved India was for the country, but the politics of free India is for the chair. And I am pained that my party is also swept in the wave,” said Kumar, who has also been Kangra MP four times. He added, “Politics of principle is the need of the hour and I pray that the leaders of my country follow their values and standard of politics improves in the country.”
BJP Govt is silent on falling currency rate: Selja
Chandigarh: Senior Congress leader and All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary Kumari Selja on Sunday said that due to BJP-led Central Government’s wrong economic policies, ‘Rupee’ is continuously at its lowest level against the ‘Dollar’. “Neither the Prime Minister's voice is heard on this decline, nor can any BJP member speak out,” she said, adding that the Prime Minister and all BJP leaders should come forward and take responsibility for this record decline. Selja said: “One dollar has now become equivalent to Rs 83.61. This is the biggest decline in the country’s history. The Central Government has neither a policy nor the intention to stabilize the falling Rupee. This is why the Rupee has been continuously weakening since the Bjp government came into power in 2014.”
Rajya Sabha MP Hooda supports demand for Ahir regiment in Army
Chandigarh: Senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Deepender Singh Hooda on Sunday said that Haryana is a state where joining the Army is considered a matter of pride. “There has been a tradition of making supreme sacrifice for the country from generation to generation in every village here. There are soldiers in every house here, someone or the other has sacrificed his life in every village here. But after the Agnipath scheme, the doors of the Army have been closed for the people of Haryana,” he said. Addressing a rally in Dahina, South Haryana, Deepender Hooda said that this is a patriotic area but the biggest loss due to the Agnipath scheme has been suffered by Southern Haryana which is home to soldiers. Every tenth soldier in the country’s Army is a Haryanvi, he said, while alleging that by bringing schemes like Agniveer, the BJP Government has weakened the Army and ruined the dreams of the youth. The demand for formation of Ahir Regiment is completely justified and he fully supports it, he added. Hooda further said that he continuously raised the demand for the formation of 'Ahir Regiment' prominently in the Parliament, but the government, far from providing the Ahir Regiment, implemented the Agneepath Scheme.
