Suraiya participated as a showstopper in the voting awareness program yesterday.
While stating wish regarding the elections, Suraiya said that there have also been mayors and MLAs within the eunuch community. I have also contested elections, and can contest further also. If any party supports me, I can come into the field again. Apart from this, regarding the promises made by the leaders at the time of elections, he said that they are never fulfilled and are just election promises.
Suraiya has made serious allegations against the NGO (Non-Government Organisation) and said – We do not need any help from the government at present. The help that comes to us goes to all the NGOs. Not even a single rupee of government assistance reaches any eunuch. All the help goes to NGOs only. That is why we say that we do not need any help from the government. On the contrary, we helped the backward and the poor during the lockdown.
Talking about the issues at the time of elections, Suraiya said that we have no issues. All we want from the government is that we should be allowed to live as per our wish. If a eunuch is asking for two or five rupees then he should be allowed to ask, we neither want to do a job nor work. Anyway, we are educated otherwise what can we do.
Suraiya said that formation of Kinnar Board is necessary, but in this also I say that whenever this board is formed, no one should be given power in it. Only the one who is the head should get it, not just anyone should be included in it.
In response to the complaint against any party or government, Suraiya said – We never have any complaint against any party or government. We also want that we should be represented in the Parliament. Because we are also citizens of the country.
Another transgender Sanjana Singh said that we want that Transgender Board (Kinnar Welfare Board) should be formed, once it is formed, all kinds of problems related to eunuchs will be solved automatically. Regarding awareness in elections, he said that we are the expected class. We were facing the brunt of discrimination for a long time, but now we actively participate in voting and make people aware. it feels great.
Sanjana told that we will go to vote keeping in mind the people who are standing for us. We will also see what those people are doing, or have done, for social welfare. It must be seen how active they are. Now awareness about voting has increased among eunuchs also. Now they also participate enthusiastically in it. Because we are also citizens of India, voting is our right, only by voting a strong democracy is formed.
Sanjana said that the Supreme Court has given us a separate identity in the country. The decision taken in favor of transgenders in the year 2019. That is, the way the Supreme Court has given self-identity as the third gender. That is why we are now coming forward in voting and also motivating the society.
Sanjana said that we want that we should also get the benefits of many schemes like women and men.
