Tuesday, 12 March 2024 | PNS | Lucknow

Two people died and one is battling for his life after a speeding car hit them while they were walking at the roadside in Gorakhpur, police said on Monday.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed grief over the loss of lives in the accident and instructed officials to provide proper treatment to the injured and also wished him a speedy recovery.

In the CCTV footage, three people, identified as Moeen (42), Akil Ahmed (38) and Tahir, all of Zahidabad under Gorakhnath police station, are seen walking at the side of a deserted road late on Sunday night. Suddenly, a speeding car is seen coming and it hits them, before speeding away.

The impact of the accident, which took place around 10 pm, was so severe that one youth was thrown nearly 100 feet away while the other two also fell several feet away. While Moeen and Akil Ahmed died on the spot, Tahir’s condition is said to be critical.

The trio had gone out for a walk after having dinner on Sunday night when the accident took place.

On the written complaint of the family members of the deceased, a case has been registered against the unidentified driver.

The police said they were trying to trace the driver with the help of CCTV footage, adding that a person was detained in connection with the incident on Monday.

Police officer Jitendra Kumar Singh said a case had been registered under sections 124, 125, 279, 304, 337 and 338 of the Indian Penal Code.

In Fatehpur, an uncontrolled car fell into a pit in which three people were killed and two others injured on Monday morning.

Police reached the spot on getting information and sent the bodies for post-mortem.

The speeding car met with an accident on Bhitaura Road in Sadar Kotwali area. In the accident, Gaurav Sachan (28) of Awas Vikas, Sadar Kotwali, Mayank Sachan of Jamalpur Mawaiya and Shivam Gupta of PAC Gate died on the spot. Two other people were seriously injured and are undergoing treatment in the hospital.

All five had come to Fatehpur to attend a baby shower ceremony.

A case was registered and further investigations are on.

Meanwhile, in a bizarre incident in Agra, a woman bit off and swallowed a part of her neighbour’s ear during a fight.

According to reports, the victim, identified as Ramveer Baghel, left the gate of his rented house unlocked after dropping his child off for an exam. This angered another tenant couple, Sanjeev and Rakhi, who started abusing Ramveer for leaving the gate open.

The verbal spat soon turned violent, as Sanjeev grabbed Ramveer’s hands, and Rakhi attacked his ear with her teeth. She managed to tear off a part of his ear and swallowed it before anyone could stop her.

Ramveer was left bleeding and in pain while Rakhi fled the scene.

The police were informed about the incident and the cops reached the spot. They registered a case against Sanjeev and Rakhi for causing grievous hurt and criminal intimidation. They also launched a search for Rakhi, who is absconding.

Ramveer was taken to a hospital, where doctors said that his ear could not be repaired as the severed part was missing.

Ramveer said that he was shocked and traumatised by the attack and demanded strict action against the accused.
