Rajya Sabha BJD member Prasanna Acharya suffered critical injuries when his car collided with a gas tanker near Beladihi in the Rairakhol area of Sambalpur district late on Thursday night.
He was undergoing treatment in the ICU of a private hospital in Sambalpur. His condition was stated to be stable.
The collision between his car and the gas tanker occurred on NH-55 Sambalpur-Rairakhol road.
The Personal Security Officer (PSO) of the BJD leader was also critically injured in the accident while the driver of the ill-fated vehicle sustained minor injuries.
Acharya was on his way back to Bargarh from Bhubaneswar when the accident took place. Police detained the truck driver for questioning.
As of the latest update, Acharya’s condition was reported to be stable.
