PTR beefs up security of wild life ahead of Holi

Thursday, 21 March 2024 | PNS | DALTONGANJ

Palamu tiger reserve has beefed up its vigil and security for its wild life ahead of the Holi festival.

Holi festival sees intrusion of miscreants who make bids on the life of deer for feast.

Deputy director north division of the PTR P K Jena said "We have sounded alert. Betla National Park is the biggest abode of deer. We are determined to save it by all means."

Jena said "We have declared some localities as Red having a history of intrusion posing dangers to deer. Here our men will be 24x7 vigilant."

Attempts to poach deer occur mostly near the water bodies. Here poachers lay nooze made of the thin wires of the cycle tyres.

Any of the four legs of the deer if it falls on the trap of wires, the nooze gets tightened around the neck of the deer.

The more the deer tries to wriggle out of it, the more its neck gets tightened by the nooze.

Poachers avoid using country made guns in the jungles. There are reasons for it.

A gunshot can be heard from a distance.

Further gun shot sets off panic among the monkeys, langurs, birds etc who make some such noises that become indicative of danger in the surroundings.

Hence poachers use snooze. It's a silent killing trap. Deer are the easiest prey to it.

Palamu Quila areas and route to Satbarwa are the passage of the poachers who sneak into the Betla National Park all for deer for feast of the Holi.
