Assam student beaten by junior in PGDAV College

In another incident of attack on people from the North-East, an Assamese student was thrashed by one of his juniors on the college premises on Tuesday. The incident took place inside Delhi University’s PGDAV College in South Campus area. The college authorities later suspended the accused student, Sonu. later, he was arrested.

According to the complaint, the victim, Pran Saikia is a final-year student of Political Science (Hons) and was in a queue to purchase food when Sonu came from behind and asked him to step aside. Sonu is a first-year Sanskrit (Hons) student. The victim in retaliation asked the accused to be patient and wait his turn. “The accused later told him that he would teach him a lesson if he did not move, following which an argument surfaced between the two. The accused then beat him up and fled,” said a police official.

Saikia who sustained injuries on his lips, cheek and eye was immediately rushed to the principal’s office. The victim also claimed he was given medicine past its expiry date in the college medical inspection room. The principal further instructed his staff members and security personnel to close all exit points at the college to nab the accused but Sonu managed to flee by scaling the boundary wall.

On contacting principal of the college Dr MM Goel, he said the accused has been suspended. “We informed the police as soon as the incident took place. However, the accused, Sonu managed to flee the spot. We dug into our records and found he was a first-year student of Sanskrit Hons. We have suspended Sonu from the college,” he said. A case under Section 323 and 341 of the IPC has been registered.
