The Roots of Odisha Foundation in association with the CRESPAI would organise the 2nd Konark International Cyclothon on December 17 from here as a part of the let’s Pedal Movement.
Around 500 participants would join a 100-km ride via Malati Patpur to Konark from the Kalinga Stadium here, where the event will be flagged off.
20 cyclists from different walks of life would join a cycling voyage from Konark to Delhi covering a distance of 2,000 km and passing through six States and 20 cities. They would campaign the let’s Pedal Movement from Konark to Cuttack on the first day, Cuttack to Baleswar on the second day, Baleswar to Kharagpur on the third day, Kharagpur to Jamshedpur on the fourth day, Jamshedpur to Gaya on the 6th day, Gaya to Sasaram on the 7th day, Sasaram to Varanasi on the 8th day, Varanasi to Allahabad on the 10th day, Allahabad to Kanpur on the 11th day, Kanpur to Etawah on the 12th day, Etawah to Agra on the 13th day and Agra to Delhi on the 15th day, of their ride. The 5th, 9th, and 14th days are reserved for city and community engagement at Jamshedpur, Varanasi and Agra, respectively.
Roots of Odisha Foundation chairman Sudhir Kumar Dash and advisor Kishore Dwibedi said the mission is to promote pollution free environment since 10 cities in India are in the most polluted cities in the world, 40 per cent of the children in India are suffering from respiratory diseases, while the biggest killer, even surpassing terrorism, has been pollution around the world.
