Artist Japani Shyam gets FICCI Young Achievers Award 2018

City’s visual artist Japani Shyam awarded with the 13th Annual FICCI Young Achievers Award 2018. The event was held at Delhi wherein Home Minister Rajnath Singh felicitated the winners with the award.

The event was organised by the Young ladies Group of The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) at The lalit Hotel, Delhi. In this award function, the city’s visual artist Japani Shyam was awarded the FICCI Young Achievers Award.

The annual YFlO Young Women Achiever Awards recognise womens contribution to society in various fields like sports, media, politics, visual arts, performing arts, entrepreneurship, community service, literature, cinema and fashion.

Born to a Gond artist Jangarh Singh Shyam, Japani Shyam, decided to carve out a creative path of her own. She is best known for creating a unique depiction of deities and animals.

Japani Shyam said that she did not expected to be invited on such a big forum. “I feel extremely happy to win this prestigious award. I am thrilled that being a tribal girl, I am being recognised for tribal art. I am proud to bring this traditional art form from a small village to everyone’s notice where it is slowly gaining appreciation by all,” she added.

Apart from Japani Shyam on this occasion, Aditya Rao Hyderi, Entrepreneur Ananya Birla, Entrepreneur Deepali Govnkar, Community Service Kulsum Wahab, Fashion Icon Malaika Arora Khan, in Politics Poonam Mahajan, Riddhimi Kapoor Sahni and women achievers in other fields were felicitated with Young Achievers Award.

Sharing one of the incidents of award function, Japani said that Rajnath Singh asked about her name’s origin. Japani said that when he was being honored, the Home Minister Rajnath Singh asked him why your name is Japani.

“I told him that my father, Jangarh Singh Shyam was a famous Gond artist and had a tour for Japan. As soon as he stepped on Japan’s soil, then I was born. That’s why I was named Japani.” She further informed that she had learned this art from her father. To keep this art alive even after his death was her dream, she added.
