IT dept serves notice to 800 shell companies in Dhanbad

The Income Tax Department has intensified investigations against the shell companies in Dhanbad, served notices to 800 companies through which more than Rs 300 crore, owned by individuals, was routed to evade taxes.

“We have identified around 800 shell companies in Dhanbad area who have invested more than 300 million in shell companies; the headquarters of these companies is in Kolkata, said an income tax department official.

People have invested their black money through shares and loans in these companies we have intensified the investigations against them, said V Mahalingum Chief Income Tax Commissioner.

“We have found the investments of Rs 10 lakhs to Rs 50 crores in each such shell companies. Notice has been served to them,” he added.

Strict action would be taken against those companies and investors whose answer will found wrong or suspicious, he said.

We have also found 300 cases in Dhanbad range who have filed self-assessment tax but they did not file advance tax on time, action would be also be taken against them, CIT said.

Aiming to increase revenue he has instructed his authorities to collect revenue from the new areas too; now doctors, charter accountants, contractors, builders and big farmers are on the radar. They have asked to prepare a list and to serve notice against the defaulters.

He said that these are such sectors where earning is very high but the tax is negligible.

“The tax evaders who shown their agriculture income would not have abstained. More than five lakh taxpayers who shown their agricultural income were examined and surprisingly 40 such cases found from Dhanbad, who have shown their earnings in the agriculture sector with the intention to save tax only,” he said.

“The notice has been sent to all, we have sought for the detailed information including lands and others. Their answers will be reviewed, if the answer is found wrong, there will be strict action,” he added.
