Make cleanliness a daily habit: Yogi

Sunday, 02 December 2018 | PNS | Lucknow

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath urged people to include cleanliness in their daily routine if they wanted to have a healthy environment. “It is not just for the government to take initiatives for keeping the state and country clean. Until everyone, including those present here, make it a daily habit, one cannot not expect to have a neat and healthy atmosphere,” asserted Yogi while addressing children, students and others in Gorakhpur on Saturday morning.

Prior to addressing a gathering, the Chief Minister flagged off a rally from Pandit Deen Dayal University campus in Gorakhpur for spreading awareness about cleanliness amongst the masses. The rally was organised to celebrate ‘Swachhata Abhiyan’ (cleanliness drive) in Gorakhpur in which over 5000 local children and college students took part. The rally started from Gorakhpur varsity and passed through Sangh crossing, Ambedkar crossing, Shastri crossing and culminated at Golghar.

Stressing on the need of maintaining cleanliness, Yogi added that it was not just the duty of the public to include cleanliness in their routine, but it was imperative that they inform others about the ill effects of garbage and filth.

“The government has taken an initiative in this regard and the result has started trickling in with lesser children falling prey to communicable diseases especially Encephalitis which, in the past, has claimed hundreds of lives. This year, the number of deaths due to the killer disease has come down sharply and there has been a decline of patients suffering from such diseases in the hospital too,” he said.

The Chief Minister claimed that his government was committed to making UP a leading state in cleanliness drive beside making efforts for beautification of each district. He pointed out that said that his government had already sanctioned Rs 9 crore for Kanha Upvan, Rs 16 crore for the disposal of waste water and Rs 72 crore for sewerage for Gorakhpur.

Yogi, who was on a two-day tour to Gorakhpur, later flew to Rajasthan where he was scheduled to address public rallies for BJP candidates contesting Assembly poll. Gorakhpur mayor Sitaram Jaiswal and Minister of Urban Development Suresh Khanna were also present along with senior officers and local leaders.
