Sunday, 01 July 2018 | PNS | PURI

Unidentified miscreants allegedly stole Ashtadhatu (made of eight metals) idols and a gold crown and other ornaments of the deities of the Jaya Durga temple at Sakhigopal on Friday night, police informed on Saturday.

The incident came to light after the temple priest found the lock of the temple broken on Saturday morning and all the valuable items including Ashtadhatu idols and gold ornaments of deities were stolen.

The valuable ornaments and idols of other deities including Nilakantha, Somnath, Gopinath and Radha Krushna were also found stolen in the temple, a local said.

The priest immediately informed about the incident to the temple’s managing committee. Police launched a probe into the incident following a complaint about theft of idols was lodged. A manhunt operation has begun to trace the culprits.
