AAP announces 3 candidates in Hry

Monday, 22 April 2019 | PNS | Chandigarh

Aam Aadmi Party on Sunday announced its three candidates for the ensuing Lok Sabha polls in Haryana.

AAP, which is contesting the Lok Sabha polls in an alliance with Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) in Haryana has fielded state party chief Naveen Jaihind from Faridabad, former IPS officer and ex-DGP of Himachal, Prithviraj from Ambala (reserved constituency) and Krishna Kumar Agarwal, an advocate from Karnal seat.

The announcement was made by senior AAP leader and Haryana in-charge Gopal Rai in a joint press conference with JJP leader Dushyant Chautala at the party’s Delhi office.

Naveen Jaihind, who is a Brahmin, had in 2014 Lok Sabha polls contested from Rohtak parliamentary seat and finished fourth. This time, Jaihind will take on outgoing Faridabad MP and BJP nominee Krishan Pal Gurjar and Congress nominee and MLA Lalit Nagar.

AAP’s alliance partner-JJP- has already announced candidates on four seats out of seven seats in its quota in Haryana.

The voting to 10 Lok Sabha seats in Haryana will be held on May 12.   The filing of nominations for all the 10 Lok Sabha seats began on April 16 and will close on April 23.

JJP leader Dushyant Chautala is seeking re-election from Hisar Lok Sabha constituency and has already filed his nomination. The JJP has fielded new faces--Nirmal Singh Malhadi from Sirsa, Pradeep Deswal from Rohtak and Swati Yadav from Bhiwani-Mahendergarh.

Notably, late last year, a group led by Ajay Chautala, elder son of former Haryana Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala, broke away from the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) and formed JJP after a power struggle between Ajay and his brother Abhay Chautala. The grandsons of OP Chautala — Dushyant and Digvijay — are spearheading the JJP.

Meanwhile, AAP leader Gopal Rai also announced that Delhi Chief Minister and AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal would participate in two mega roadshows and two election allies in Haryana.

He said that the first roadshow will be organized from Sonepat to Panchkula and would cover six districts. The second roadshow to be organized from Bahadurgarh to Dabwali will cover five districts in the state.

Apart from this, Arvind Kejriwal will hold two election rallies in the last week of campaigning in Haryana, he added.

The AAP leader also accused the Congress of wasting AAP's time over the tie-up in Delhi, Haryana and Chandigarh.

He said that the AAP had even postponed the nomination of its candidates in Delhi. Now, they will file their nominations on Monday and we will also launch a 'Pol-Khol Abhiyan' against the Congress, Rai added.

All the doors of an alliance with the Congress party are shut now. There are no hopes left for an alliance with Congress. We tried our best, but they kept on behaving in a manner which will help the BJP, he said.

Rai alleged that by dividing votes of the opposition, the Congress wants to benefit the BJP. He further said that the Congress was giving an impression that the AAP refused to form an alliance.

“But the fact is whichever seat sharing formula the Congress proposed we agreed to it in Haryana, Delhi and Chandigarh and even then they backtracked,” Rai added.

A day before, the AAP leaders had said that the Congress, AAP and JJP had earlier agreed to the 7-2-1 formula in Haryana where the Congress would be the biggest player with seven seats, while JJP would get two and AAP one but the Congress later backtracked.
