Aim to be among top 10 in sports by 2028: Rijiju

The Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports, Kiren Rijiju, said that efforts are being made to bring India among top 10 nations in sports by 2028. He said this during a youth seminar held in Almora as part of the State foundation week on Thursday.

Rijiju said that the aim is to facilitate best performance in sports. The Government is aiming to take the players ahead and further improve their performance under Khelo India national programme.

He said that he personally meets every sportsperson, adding that training is the basis of success in any sport. Stating that the nation will win medals in the Olympics, he said that the Government had made financial provision for any player who has represented the nation and then suffers from ill-health.

If such players can not meet the Minister, they can tag him on the social media, after which the Government will bear the necessary expenses, he said. Every scheme is being made keeping the youth in mind, added Rijiju.

Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat the youth of Uttarakhand are skilled and reliable but need development of entrepreneurship.

Stating that Government intends to learn of the aspirations of the youth and make provisions accordingly in the budget, he said that the nation will be happy if the youth are happy.

Citing the growth in aviation sector, he spoke of considerable employment opportunities in it.

Stressing on the need to focus on alternative farming, he said that hurdles in the mountainous regions can be overcome with novel thinking. Rawat also spoke about the various measures undertaken and planned by the State Government for development of the state.

Cabinet Ministers Yashpal Arya, Arvind Pandey, Assembly deputy speaker RS Chauhan and others were also present on the occasion.
