The Election Commission has made elaborate preparations for the counting of votes on Thursday for the bypolls held for 11 assembly seats on October 21.
The results will pave the way for political parties to plan their strategies before the 2022 UP assembly elections.
The counting of votes will commence at 8 am under tight security and the results are expected by Thursday afternoon.
Election Commission officials here said on Wednesday that all preparations for smooth conduct of the counting had been completed. The counting will commence with postal ballots and thereafter 14 electronic voting machines (EVMs) would be taken up in each round to complete the process.
The 11 assembly seats where bypolls were held are Gangoh (Saharanpur), Rampur, Iglas (Aligarh), Lucknow Cantonment, Govindnagar (Kanpur), Manikpur (Chitrakoot), Zaidpur (Barabanki), Jalalpur( Ambedkarnagar), Balha (Bahraich), Ghosi (Mau) and Pratapgarh.
The voter turnout in these bypolls came down drastically to 47.05 per cent, down 13 per cent from the 2017 assembly polls. In 2017, the average polling was around 60 per cent in these constituencies.
The highest voter turnout was witnessed in Gangoh where 60.30 per cent of the total voters exercised their franchise. It was followed Jalalpur (58.80 per cent) and Zaidpur (58 per cent).
Lucknow Cantonment constituency reported the lowest turnout of 28.53 per cent.
Of the 11 constituencies where bypolls were held, eight seats were held by the BJP, one by its alliance partner Apna Dal (Sonelal) and one each by Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party.
The bypolls witnessed four-cornered contests as BJP, SP, BSP and Congress fielded their candidates from all the 11 constituencies.
