The Medical Health and Family Welfare Department of Uttarakhand has come forward to the rescue of the beleaguered Community Action and Motivation Programme (CAMP), the company selected for operation of 108 emergency ambulance service. The company has come under cloud even before it took over the operation of service from GVK EMRI as it was blamed for hiring inexperienced outsiders. On Tuesday the director general ( DG) health services, Dr Ravindra Thapliyal said that all the employees of the company are domiciled residents of Uttarakhand.
He said that almost 60 percent of the staff of the new company consisted of those employees who were already working in the 108 emergency ambulance service and the remaining 40 percent employees also belong to the state. He said that the old fleet of 139 ambulances has been changed with new vehicles.
On the reported claim of the new company that it would not cater to child births in the ambulances, Dr Thapliyal said that in last two days since the new company has taken over the operation of ambulances, four safe deliveries have taken place in the ambulances. He clarified that though the new company CAMP was to officially take control of operation of ambulance service from May 1, it has practically taken over the operation from the GVK- EMRI on 28 April itself. The DG further informed that 88 patients have been admitted in the hospitals by the 108 ambulance service in last two days.
