Monday, 17 June 2019 | RAJ KUMAR SHARMA | JHARSUGUDA

Frequent power cuts for long periods with 44-degree Celsius day temperature have brought normal life here to a virtual standstill.

Four to six hours power failure in a day and late night in Jharsuguda industrial town area has compelled citizens to lead a difficult life.

The Wesco had adopted a new way of cutting power supply by declaring it as cable fault or some other problems.  The humidity in the air has made the situation worse in the absence of the power supply.

In several localities, electricity supply is being disrupted several times a day, besides the allotted time for load shedding, for last two weeks.

Residents of Beheramal, Bijunagar, BTM  area, Bombay chowk, Cox colony, Malimunda, Chowkipara, Marwaripara, industrial area of Jharsuguda township alleged that the Wesco has failed to ensure powercut situation in these areas.

Many residents from different areas have complained about the drop in voltage.

Swarnalata Patel, a school teacher of  Shankar Vihar area, said, "Power goes off for a long time in late night hours which put our life in great difficulty, Our families are battling with their lives in such hot conditions."

"Life has become miserable over the last few days due to frequent power cuts both in  peak and non-peak hours,” told Subash Sahare of Manab Seva Sangh.

Outages lasting from a couple of minutes to half an hour and fluctuation is aggravating problems of people, said Jiban Mohanty a resident of Bombay Chowk area.

Unscheduled power cuts are not permanent and these are fixed after the issue of power load is solved, said Executive Engineer, Wesco, D Gardia.
