Inculcate Indian culture and tradition: Governor

The Governor of Uttarakhand, Baby Rani Maurya, has said that it is very important to ensure that the students remain connected to the Indian culture and tradition.

She was speaking at a programme organised to celebrate 19th foundation day of the Indian Public School here on Wednesday.

She said that apart from teaching science, arts and other subjects, the students should also be taught about Indian culture and our tradition. The Governor said that the basic objective of the education should be to inspire students for nation building by inculcating Indian culture along with modern science and education.

Asking the students to read the biographies of great leaders and their teachings, the governor suggested that they should the books authored by former President APJ Abdul Kalam. She said that the tendency of reading is declining among the students in the Internet age so it has become necessary that the parents should inculcate the habit of reading in their wards. The Governor said that sports help in mental and physical development of students and they should take part in these events. She opined that every student had some hidden talent and it is the responsibility of the school to recognize and evolve this talent.

On a cautious note, Maurya said that in the changed times, everyone should remain cautious about the safety of students in the schools and hostels and for this active participation of teachers and parents is necessary.

The Governor exhorted the students to become responsible citizens and play their role in development of the nation. She added that the students should participate wholeheartedly in the ongoing campaign against single use plastic in the country.

The Governor inaugurated a girl hostel and Gaushala on the occasion.

The Rajya Sabha member, R K Sinha, the principal of the school, parents, teachers and students were present on the occasion.
