Odia jawan Naik Ajit Kumar Sahoo, who was injured following an IED blast in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Monday, succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday.
Sahoo, a resident of Badasuala village in Kamakhyanagar block of Dhenkanal district, had joined the Indian Army in 2015.
His family came to know about the incident after Ajit’s father received a phone call from the Army in the morning.
Dhenkanal Collector Nikhil Pawan Kalyan said, “It’s very unfortunate for us but it’s a pride as well at the same time that he sacrificed his life for the country in the line of duty. Our deepest condolences to the family, we will extend all support to them,” he expressed.
“We expect the body of the martyr would be brought to Odisha in service flight in the evening today. Later, the body would be brought to Dhenkanal for cremation, he added.”
The State BJP expressed deep grief over the incident. State BJP president Basant Panda while expressing his sympathies to the bereaved family prayed for Sahoo’s soul to rest in peace.
