Never seen a ‘more coward, weak PM’ than Modi: PGV

Friday, 10 May 2019 | PNS | Lucknow

After dubbing Prime Minister Narendra Modi as ‘Duryodhan’, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra fired a fresh salvo on Thursday, saying that she had never come across a “more coward and weak” Prime Minister than him.

“Insey bada kayar, insey kamzor pradhan mantri maine jeevan mein nahi dekha, (I haven’t seen a more coward and weaker prime minister than him in my life),” Priyanka charged at an election meeting in Pratapgarh.

A day earlier, the Prime Minister had kicked up a controversy by targeting Priyanka’s father and former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, accusing him of using warship INS Viraat as a “personal taxi” for a family vacation.

Priyanka said that Modi had failed to answer people’s questions on unfulfilled promises of providing two crore jobs and doubling the income of farmers.

“The power of politics does not come from big campaigns and TV shows. People play the biggest role in a democracy. One should have power to listen and solve people’s problems. He (Modi) should have the power to listen to the opposition. Leave aside listening to you, this prime minister does not know how to reply to you,” the Congress leader fired.

“You have been cheated. He (the prime minister) had promised to check corruption but now he has been exposed as corrupt. He hides reality with his campaigns. If Modiji comes to you, then you should tell him that in Amethi, without power connection, a lady was served with a electricity bill of Rs 35,000 while another resident got a bill for Rs 50,000,” she said.

Priyanka claimed that loans of big industrialists were waived but when Rahul Gandhi asked for loan waiver for farmers, he was told that there was no fund.

She also alleged that farmers’ insurance money was never paid to them and they were battling stray cattle menace.

“If the Prime Minister is so powerful, he should tell why he could not solve your problems in the last five years. In every speech, he mentions Pakistan but he should also tell you what his government has done in the past five years. We are here due to you as you have made us leaders. People are bigger than us,” she said.

Priyanka alleged that when thousands of farmers from all over the country converged on Delhi and sought a five-minute appointment from the Prime Minister, he did not give them time.

“In the last five years, the Prime Minister could not spare even five minutes for visiting people in villages of his constituency Varanasi. How can you expect he will ask people about their well-being and their problems,” the Congress general secretary said.

Priyanka pointed out that instead of doubling farmers’ income as promised, their income had come down to half due to anti-farmer policies of the Bharatiya Janata Party government. “Similarly, there is a plunge in job opportunities against the BJP promise of providing two crore jobs every year,” she said.

Priyanka promised that the Congress government at the Centre would return the Food Park in Amethi and benefit people of Pratapgarh and adjoining districts. She also addressed an election meeting in Jaunpur.

Priyanka also took out a grand roadshow in Sultanpur where aunt Maneka Gandhi of the BJP is pitted against Congress candidate Sanjay Singh. This is first time that Priyanka has campaigned against her family member for a party candidate.
