Alert troops of the Indian Army shot down a Pakistan Army quadcopter along Line of Control (LoC) in Keran sector of Jammu & Kashmir's Kupwara district on Saturday.
In the evening, Pakistan initiated 'unprovoked' ceasefire violation by firing with small arms and shelling mortars along the line of control in Degwar sector of Poonch district. In response, the Indian army retaliated effectively.
It is after a gap of almost one month the Pakistani troops have managed to steer a quadcopter along the line of control for reconnaissance of the forward posts.
In the past, Pakistani troops had attempted to smuggle arms and ammunition consignment and narcotics using drones in the region. Around half a dozen attempts have been reported across Jammu region in the recent months. Confirming the report, Twitter handle of a Srinagar based Chinar Corps tweeted, “A quadcopter (DJI Mavic 2 Pro model) has been shot down today morning by the Indian Army in Keran Sector, Kupwara district along the Line of Control”.
Official sources revealed the quadcopter was on a reconnaissance mission inside the Indian territory when it was shot down around 8.00 a.m in the Keran sector.
Indian army is already maintaining a tight vigil in the forward areas to prevent any action by the Border Action Team of the Pakistan army. Official sources said,
“Efforts are also being made to infiltrate small batches of trained terrorists before the mountainpasses are blocked due to seasonal snowfall in the higher reaches of North Kashmir in Kupwara district”.
