Rajnath calls upon youth in building new India

Defense Minister of India Rajnath Singh called upon youngsters to draw inspiration from eminent personalities as source of inspiration in nation building. Rajnath said, youth is the source of innovation, invention and ideas and India being a country with the maximum young population has the potential to become a very powerful country in future.

The Union Minister, who was speaking as chief guest at Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ranchi’s ninth convocation on virtual mode asked youth to take inspiration from eminent personalities such as Srinivasa Ramanujan, Nelson Mandela, Steve Jobs, Swami Vivekananda, Baudhayana, Aryabhata, Varahamihira, Brahmagupta, Charaka, Sushruta, Nagarjuna, Jai Singh.

Stressing on the need to promote local entrepreneurship, he said, “Young talents from IIM Ranchi should help in promoting and strengthening local entrepreneurship with the help of technology so that local becomes global. Overall, apart from education we should also focus on developing research and problem solving.”

Rajnath added, as business leaders, students have the duty to ensure that companies also provide benefits to the society where they operate.  He added that IIM Ranchi is a nationally-acclaimed management institute, its primary responsibility is to help organizations, both government and corporate in enhancing their efficiency and effectiveness. Congratulating faculty for nourishing young minds, he said, “Today Covid 19 has confined our physical connection, and technology has helped us stay connected, thanks to innovation. IIM Ranchi has followed its core values of humility, hard work, and honesty for 11 years now. The students here have been achieving outstanding excellence, which shows the institutional excellence of IIM Ranchi.”

The ninth convocation was held virtually at seminar hall, at permanent campus of IIM Ranchi on Monday. The convocation ceremony started with the academic procession followed by Saraswati Vandana, lighting of lamp and national song.

Prof. Shailendra Singh, Director, IIM, Ranchi, delivering the welcome speech and presenting institute report said, “The institute has performed outstanding, based on MHRD, MOU and the students have brought many laurels to the institute, 60 awards, Tata Motor, Tata Steel, RBI awards, Bombay Stock Exchange, to name a few. We have signed 9 MOUs for the exchange program, including the institutes from Greece, USA, Canada, China, and many more.” He also emphasised on the achievements of faculty members towards their research and publications.

He mentioned that IIM Ranchi has taken several other initiatives, including undertaking impactful policy research, through the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Centre on Leadership, Policy and Governance (ABVCLPG) and the Birsa Munda Centre for Tribal studies that focus on skill development amongst tribal communities.

During the 9th convocation, degrees were conferred virtually on 272 students from the graduating students from the various programmes, such as: PhD: three students, MBA: 182 students, MBA- HRM: 66 students, Post-Graduate Executive Programme in Management (PGEXP): 21 students.

Jasmeet Singh Bindra received first position as (Recipient of BoG Chairman’s Medal and Certificate of Merit) in MBA 2018-20 batch. Surabhi Sethi received the first position (Recipient of BoG Chairman’s Medal and Certificate of Merit) in MBA-HRM 2018-20 batch. Kaushik Chopra received first position (Recipient of BoG Chairman’s Medal and Certificate of Merit) in Post-Graduate Executive Programme in Management (PGEXP). The ICSI Signature Award – Gold Medal was awarded to Jasmeet Singh Bindra for securing the highest CGPA in the MBA Programme. Prof. Ashish Hajela Memorial Award was awarded to Alok Raj for securing highest GPA in the Strategic Management Area in MBA Programme.

The convocation was attended by Praveen Shankar Pandya, Chairman, BoG, faculty members, staff and students of institute.
