State BJP defends farm bills

The day on which Modi government  managed to get the controversial farm bill passed in Rajya Sabha, the State BJP unit defended the bill claiming that critics are misleading farmers on farm bills.

On Sunday, despite ruckus created by opposition and BJP allies partners Akali Dal, BJD and TRS opposing the bill, the Rajya Sabha passed the-- Farmer’s Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill 2020 and the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill, 2020 of the three it had proposed and got passed in the Lok Sabha. The government is likely to introduce the third bill in the Upper House of Parliament on Monday.

State BJP general secretary Pradeep Verma accussed the detractors of spreading misinformation and lies.

Verma said that agriculture minister had already stated that minimum support price or MSP based procurement of agriculture crops from farmers will continue and is not linked to the farm bills that seek to give cultivators freedom to market thier produce.

Verma stressed that the bill will act as protection shield for farmers and accused those opposing the measures of standing with opposition and deceiving and lying to the farmers.

The BJP leader claimed that the bill permits the electronic trading of farmers produce and allows the setting up transaction platforms for facilitating direct online buying and selling of farm products.

Earlier, after the bill was passed in Rajya Sabha Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that it is watersheds moment for farmers of this country.

“A watershed moment in the history of Indian agriculture. Congrats to our hardworking farmers on the passage of key bills in Parliament which will ensure a complete transformation of the agriculture sector as well as empower crores of farmers,” PM tweeted.

Meanwhile in Rajya Sabha the opposition MPs came to well of the house and raised slogans against the bills. Congress and other opposition parties sat in protest inside Rajya Sabha after farm bills passed amid din and house adjourned.
