State reports highest single-day deaths of 15

The Covid-19 death toll climbed to 736 as 15 more patients succumbed to the virus on Wednesday, the highest so far in a single day in the State.

Four patients died in Bhubaneswar (Khordha district) while two deaths each were reported in Puri and Mayurbhanj districts and one each in Baleswar, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal, Malkangiri, Nayagarh and Nuapada districts, the Health and Family Welfare Department said.

The deaths in Bhubaneswar were of a 62-year-old man, a 35-year-old man, a 42-year-old man and a 70-year-old man. The Puri deceased were a 70-year-old man and a 72-year-old man. The fatalities in Mayurbhanj were of a 63-year-old man and a 74-year-old man.The other deceased included a 51-year-old man of Baleswar, a 67-year-old man of Cuttack, a 72-year-old man of Dhenkanal, a 75-year-old man of Kandhamal and a 41-year-old man of Malkangiri, a 72-year-old man of Nayagarh and a 37-year-old man of Nuapada.

Meanwhile, State reported more than 4,000 Covid positive cases for consecutive seventh day with 4,237 cases being recorded from all 30 districts and State pool onday.

With fresh cases, State’s total count rose to 1,92,548. Of the new cases, 2,485 were detected from quarantine and the rest 1,752 are local contacts.Khordha district reported the day’s highest 647 cases followed by Cuttack 577, Puri 219, Jharsuguda 205, Jajpur 201, Jagatsinghpur 173, Baleswar 161, Kendrapada 148, Mayurbhanj 139, Bhadrak 136, Subarnapur 131, Bargarh 121, Nuapada 115, Sambalpur 111.
