Vig probe sought into U'kote road work

Friday, 12 June 2020 | PNS | NABARANGPUR

The road connecting Umarkote and Raighar is in a pathetic condition.  According to sources, the road work was implemented in 2014-2016 by contractors hired by the PWD and Rs 10.75 crore was spent for one stretch of the highway and Rs 12.30 crore for another.

It is alleged that the contractors openly flouted the construction norms and did not maintain the quality of the work. The surface of the road was damaged by rains and is full of pitfalls. A few months back, the local denizens held a six-hour bandh demanding a vigilance inquiry into the road work and submitted a memorandum to the district Collector and the higher officials of the PWD.

Basing on the allegation, a team of officials of the PWD once visited to the site and submitted its reports to the department, but no action has been taken against the erring officials of the PWD and concerned contractor, alleged the local denizens here.

In the meantime, instead of taking any action against the erring officials  a fresh tender was called for the repair of the  highway at a cost of Rs 9 crore.
