A month after beginning of Covid vaccine drive, Chandigarh records overall coverage of only 31.3%

With overall Covid-19 vaccination coverage standing at just 31.3 per cent on Tuesday, the Union Territory of Chandigarh continues to figure in the list of worst performing States/UTs in the country.

Placed at third position in the list of worst performing states /UTs in COVID-19 vaccination coverage of healthcare workers by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Tuesday, Chandigarh is among those having vaccinated less than 50 percent healthcare workers after a month of vaccination drive.

Till now, only 7495 healthcare workers against the target of 23531 have been given the first dose of vaccination, accounting for an achievement rate of 31.8 percent. Apart from this, 2625 frontline workers against the target of 8770 have been inoculated, accounting for an achievement rate of 29 percent.

Overall 10120 HCWs and FLWs have been vaccinated against the target of 32301 since the launch of vaccination drive on January 16 in the city.

Apart from this, 108 HCWs have got the second dose of COVID vaccine against the target of 325 on Tuesday. Overall, 252 HCWs have been given a second dose of the vaccination till now.

On Tuesday, only 652 beneficiaries against the target of 3152 had turned up at various sites to get a shot of vaccination in the city, accounting for an achievement rate of only 20 percent. 257 healthcare workers against the target of 1285 and 395 frontline workers against the target of 1867 were inoculated on Tuesday.

Considering the poor response to vaccination drive, the UT Administration has planned to start an awareness campaign to remove hesitancy from the minds of people regarding the vaccination.

1 DEATH, 29 FRESH CASES IN CHANDIGARH

One more person succumbed to COVID-19 as 29 fresh positive cases surfaced in Chandigarh on Tuesday.  The total case tally stood at 21293 while the death toll has reached 347 in the city, according to the Chandigarh Health Department’s evening bulletin. There were 133 active cases till the evening.

24 patients have recovered in the past 24 hours taking the total number of recoveries to 20813, it stated. 2.36 lakh samples have so far been tested in the city. A total of 1353 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours.
