With overall Covid-19 vaccination coverage standing at just 28.7 per cent, the union territory of Chandigarh continues to figure in the list of worst performing states/UTs in the country.

Placed at sixth position in the list of worst performing states /UTs in Covid-19 vaccination coverage by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Tuesday, Chandigarh is among those having vaccinated less than 40 percent healthcare workers till now.As per Government’s data, 6027 healthcare workers and frontline workers have been inoculated in Chandigarh. On Tuesday, just 431 beneficiaries against the target of 1590 turned up at ten sites to get a shot of vaccination in the city.

This included 203 healthcare workers against the target of 1130 and 228 frontline workers against the target of 450. The overall achievement rate for the day was recorded at a poor 27.1 percent.

Notably, the first phase of the COVID-19 vaccination drive began on January 16. The second phase of vaccination drive for frontline workers which include the police personnel, Municipal Corporation Employees, Revenue officials, Paramilitary forces etc had begun on Wednesday in the city.

 ONE DEATH, 14 FRESH CASES

One more person succumbed to COVID-19 as 14 fresh positive cases surfaced in Chandigarh on Tuesday. While the tally stood at 21154, the death toll has reached 342 in the city, according to the Chandigarh Health Department’s evening bulletin. 2.27 lakh samples have so far been tested in the city and 1135 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours.
