The coronavirus vaccination for the elderly began in Chhattisgarh on Monday, the Health Department said.
“The vaccine was received by elderly people. By Monday evening, 3,259 persons had received vaccine shots,” said Dr Amar Singh, the Immunization Officer.
No case of side effects was reported, Dr Amar said, adding health and frontline workers who were left out also received the vaccine shot.
Vaccination of people between 45 and 59 years also started. These people have to present a certificate of co-morbidity signed by a registered medical practitioner.
In all, 509 people between 45 to 59 years received the first dose of vaccine, Dr Thakur said.
Chhattisgarh has set a target of vaccinating 30 lakh elderly people.
Health officials said that for vaccination Aadhar card is the most preferred identity proof document. Apart from Aadhar voter id, passport, PAN card, pension documents or any other photo id card issued by the competent authority is acceptable.
Covid vaccine is free of cost in government hospitals while private hospitals will charge Rs 250.
The Health Department has appealed to people who have received the first dose of Covid vaccine to strictly follow Covid appropriate behaviour. It is fully effective only after the second dose of vaccine is taken.
