India at inflection point with over 120 mn young women entering workplace: Lekhi

Sunday, 07 March 2021 | Staff Reporter | NEW DELHI

On the eve of International Women’s Day, Member of Parliament (MP) from New Delhi constituency, Meenakshi Lekhi, presided over the conference organised on ‘Demystifying Emerging technologies – Women leaders forum’ held at New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) convention centre.

Women from various forums attended the programme. She also felicitated women who helped the downtrodden during corona period.

Lekhi said that being a catalyst for change comes with the responsibility of ensuring that the world is prepared for technological transformations that we help to usher in. This has never been truer than it is for emerging technologiessuch as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and we look forward to continuing playing the role of a strategic technology enabler.

Lekhi also said that India is at an inflection point, with over 120 million young women in the country entering into the workplace and playing a larger role in shaping society. Women leaders now have a critical role to play to help shape policies by creating a conductive environment and ecosystem toward leveraging India’s women talent. The critical need of the hour for women leaders is to be well informed of the latest trends in technology, as well as the current state of affairs of a wide set of exponential technologies such as AI, 5G, and IoT among others and we have organised this program for the same.

She further said that these technologies, while magical and fantastical in nature, are a double-edged sword. They hold the promise to radically transform the world and bridge several of the gaps that the existing solutions have failed at. Inequalities and access challenges can be resolved with deployment of these solutions at population scale.

The responsibility falls upon us to help architect and shape a Responsible AI environment where these solutions are being leveraged for positive social impact.

She stated that What better a time than Women’s Day to initiate this dialogue and conversation between subject matter experts and India’s women leaders. The objective for this workshop was to highlight the potential usage of AI and other emerging technologies and their application in the real world.

“Objective is to expand digital readiness amongst women leaders and highlight the potential usage of AI and other emerging technologies in effective and futuristic policy making, better public engagements and robust deployments in the new normal”, Lekhi added.
