Khuntia elected Int’l Migrant Working Group chief

Former MP and Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) national vice-president Dr Rama Chandra Khuntia was on Tuesday unanimously elected as chairman of the International Migrant Workers Working Group of Geneva-based Building and Wood Workers International.

He was elected to the coved post in the World Board meeting after4 his name was proposed by general secretary Ambed Yuson.

Dr Khuntia has many times represented in UN and ILO, MFA, BWI and Solidarity Centrs meetings on action plan for migrant workers. He has also organised Asian migrant workers in India, Germany, the UK and Brussels. “In the Covid-19 situation, migrant workers issue is very much important.

Discussion and action plan are under process for implementation of nonbinding compact for migrant workers prepared by the UN.  Governments, including of Government of India, are preparing National Policy of migrant workers,” Khuntia said.
