To ensure safety of railway tracks and bridges from floods, the South East Central Railway (SECR), Bilaspur zone, has installed a new sensor equipped devices to monitor the water level of rivers on 11 important meter gauge railway bridges.
The Water Level Monitoring System instantly provides complete information in the event of a sudden increase in the water level in the river. This is to ensure safe railway operation, an official communication stated on Tuesday. Earlier, the water level of rivers was measured by the traditional gauge method. This could lead to errors in reading. It was also difficult to assess the hazard on railway tracks and bridges. The new technology will help monitor the water level with ease and provide quick information, the statement said.
The mobile phones of the Assistant Division Engineer, the Work Inspector, the Railway Track Inspector and other officials have been linked to the system.
