Junior Doctors on Tuesday called off a strike they launched in the morning to protest an attack by a policeman here after authorities agreed to increase security in all government medical colleges across Chhattisgarh.
The Director of Medical Education also pledged to implement the demands raised by Junior Doctors in 2018.
A committee will be set up with the Pt Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Medical College Superintendent and Dean to discuss ways to further strengthen security measures. The teachers, Junior Doctors and students can forward their suggestions to the panel.
This was stated to The Pioneer by Dr Rakesh Gupta, President, Medical Cell, CGPCC, and Chairman, Hospital Board, after talks with the striking Junior Doctors and others in the presence of Health Minister T.S. Singh Deo.
Dr Gupta added that CCTVs will be installed in the medical colleges and residential premises. Armed security personnel will be enhanced.
The panel will review the security status on a regular basis.
The meeting decided to implement the eight demands raised after a similar physical attack on Junior Doctors in 2018.
They include restricting the time for entry of relatives of patients, increasing beds in trauma and emergency centres, fixing responsibility on police personnel deployed in premises, registering FIR at the hospital, increasing Class III and IV employees, installing CCTVs and operating Help Desks round the clock to assist the patients and their relatives.
After a constable thrashed two Junior Doctors on duty here on Monday, the doctors commenced a strike on Tuesday. The strike was withdrawn after assurances from the Health Minister.
