Fires in two restaurants in city, one dead

Two incidents of fire were reported in two restaurants in the national Capital. One man died and at least five people sustained injuries after an air-conditioner compressor exploded in a restaurant in South east Delhi’s Okhla area, police said on Thursday.  The deceased has been identified as Nadeem, who repairs ACs while the injured have been identified as Danish, who works at Waffel Mania restaurant, Ajju, Saan Mohammad, Bijay and Ikra. Police said that Ikra was discharged from hospital after the treatment.

According to police, as per the information collected so far, an ac compressor exploded in a Waffle Mania restaurant in the area and total six persons including a woman were admitted in Holy Family hospital.

Meanwhile, the fire department said that a fire call was received regarding the incident around 3: 50 PM following which three fire tenders were rushed to the Tikona Park, near Jamia.“Around 13 persons got injuries and they were shifted to Holy Family hospital,” said the fire official. In another incident, a massive fire broke out at a restaurant-cum-bar in west Delhi's Punjabi Bagh area on Thursday afternoon. No casualty has been reported so far. The police said the restaurant had four floors and a parking facility. The fire, which started allegedly due to a short circuit, spread to all the floors, police said.

“Fire department received a call about the fire at Troy Lounge and Bar on club road in Punjabi Bagh at 1.35 pm and three fire tenders were rushed to the spot,” said Atul Garg, Director, Delhi Fire Service (DFS) adding that nine more fire tenders were rushed to the spot later.

 â€œA total of 12 fire tenders were rushed to the spot and the blaze was doused. No one was reportedly inside the building when fire broke out. Further investigation is underway," a senior police official said.
