Sweeper operates patient in cell phone light

Monday, 11 July 2022 | PNS | BHADRAK

In the absence of a doctor and a nurse, a sweeper treated a patient, who had sustained head injuries, at the Chandbali Community Health Centre (CHC) in Bhadrak district on Saturday.

Ramesh Majhi, an employee of Chandbali court was injured after being hit by a beam during shifting of office articles in a vehicle from the old campus to a new building.

CHC Sweeper Subash Das stitched the patient’s wound with the help of another person. But due to poor visibility he had to use the flashlight of a mobile phone.

Later, Majhi was shifted to the SCB Medical College Hospital in Cuttack after his condition deteriorated.

However, the CHC doctor said he had treated the patient. The sweeper only stitched the wound due to staff shortage.

Earlier also such incidents were reported from the same CHC where a sweeper had allegedly plastered  the right hand of a patient and a doctor allegedly treated a patient under a mobile phone flashlight.

But the ADM, who was probing both the incidents, has not submitted his reports till date.
