Man shot multiple times in Shahdara

Saturday, 13 December 2025 | Abhinav Kumar Jha

A 50-year-old man was shot multiple times by unidentified bike-borne assailants in Shahdara’s Balbir Nagar late Thursday night, triggering panic in the neighbourhood.

The victim, Joginder Rathore, was returning home on a motorcycle when two men on another bike chased him and opened fire from behind. Three bullets hit him.

Police said the attack took place around 10:30 pm. Joginder’s wife called the police control room minutes after the shooting and reported that her husband had been shot. A team reached the spot and rushed the injured man to a hospital. Doctors have said his condition is stable for now. Shahdara DCP Prashant Gautam said, “We received a call from a woman around 10:30 pm who said her husband had been shot. Our team reached the location and found that the victim had been fired upon from behind. Joginder is around 50 years old and lives in Balbir Nagar. It is too early to comment on the motive.”

According to investigators, Joginder was returning home with his worker when the attackers approached at high speed and started firing without warning. Police are scanning CCTV footage from the nearby lanes to trace the route of the assailants. Officers said the shooters likely kept a close watch on the victim’s movements before striking on an isolated stretch.

After the incident, security in the area was increased. Police have begun questioning local residents and shopkeepers to gather clues. Teams are trying to determine whether the attack is linked to any old dispute, criminal gang activity, or a personal rivalry. Joginder was bleeding heavily when he was found, and locals assisted the police in shifting him to the hospital. The weapon used is yet to be identified.

People in the colony have demanded stronger night patrolling, saying such incidents create fear among families returning home late. Police have registered a case and formed multiple teams for technical and on-ground investigation. The search also includes identifying bikes seen speeding in the area around the time of the crime. Doctors are monitoring Joginder’s condition. Police said that only after preliminary investigations are complete will the identity of the attackers and the exact motive become clear.

The late-night shooting has once again raised concerns about rising street crime and brazen attacks in the national capital, especially involving fast-moving bikes that allow quick escape.

Authorities have assured residents that the case is being handled as a priority and the assailants will be traced soon.
