A group of 10 tribal women are running an eatery called “Manva Dhaba” in a region known to be a Maoist stronghold in Danetwada district in Chhattisgarh.
The Boss Bodin women self-help group in Bade Kareli village has been running the eatery since May, an official statement said on Sunday.
The SHG earns Rs 20,000-25,000 a day from the eatery, thanks to its quality of food and popularity.
Under the District Mineral Foundation (DMF) funds, the Dantewada administration had given Rs 16 lakh and 3,000 sq ft next to the gauthan to this SHG for the eatery.
The women running it were once engaged in household and farming work.
One SHG member, Archana Kurram, said: “Our SHG has done business of Rs 8-10 lakh from the dhaba. We have earned a profit of Rs 1.5 lakh. Our group is going to start a tiffin service to provide food at home to people.”
Dantewada Collector Vinit Nandanwar congratulated the women and said they have not only become self-reliant but started helping their families a lot, the communication said.
