BBMKU VC in dock over taking HRA despite residing in official quarter

Thursday, 08 June 2023 | Pankaj | Dhanbad

The vice chancellor of  Binod Bihari Mahto Koylaanchal University (BBMKU) appears to be in the dock over taking house rent allowance ( HRA) despite residing in an official quarter that was provided to him  by the  Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL).

Former  VC of the university too resided in the same bungalow prior to him.

The officer on special duty of Chancellor - cum- Governor has issued a show cause to Dr Sukhdev Bhoi, since joining as VC here  had been realising house rent  allowance (HRA) equivalent to what is being  paid to  class one officers  in New Delhi . This he did despite a bungalow he  was provided  here and the university was paying rent of that to BCCL.

According to  available reports  the VC has been asked  to provide an appropriate reply to this allegation as it amounts to misappropriation of money and misuse of official position.

Incidentally, DR Bhoi had been defending himself  before the media on this issue by saying that he was entitled to draw an HRA equivalent to what  he drew as Professor  at Delhi ahead of joining Dhanbad. However, has failed to explain under what circumstances he realised the HRA when was provided official quarter.

Yet another allegation on the BBMKU VC is that he demanded money from. Principals, deans, professors and other teachers  for "development "of the university stating that the state government is not cooperating with the university for its development. Though a separate bank account was opened  named as development fund accounts, university sources said that  account  was opened without approval of either the Raj Bhawan  or the state government.

Besides, these several other allegations have been leveled and the VC has  been directed to reply within a specified period .
