Deptt of Pathology in AIIMS observing foundation week

The Department of Pathology and Lab Medicine at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Bhopal, is celebrating its foundation week, which from April 4 to 7. As part of that week's events, an outreach activity was organized at the Chiklod camp under the guidance of Dr. Vaishali Walke, Professor and Head of the Department. The event was a collaboration with Dr. Rajkumar Patil's team from the Department of Community and Family Medicine and Dr. Shweta's team from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

A cervical cancer screening camp was held on April 5th at Chiklod, Bhopal (M.P). This campaign was led by Dr. Hemlata Panwar, Associate Professor of Pathology and Lab Medicine. She raised awareness about early detection and prevention of cervical cancer among more than thirty women. They were also educated about the causes and risk factors of cervical cancer. Consent for cervical cancer screening was obtained, and only the details of consenting individuals were entered in the special clinic register (CFM). Out of these, Pap smear tests were conducted on 20 women.

Conventional Pap smears and liquid-based cytology smears were taken by Dr. Surbhi Chetiwar, Senior Resident in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology; Dr. Garima Pandey, Senior Resident in the Department of Pathology and Lab Medicine; and Dr. Revadi G, Senior Resident in the Department of Community and Family Medicine. Pap smear reports were provided by the Department of Pathology and dispatched to the CFM department.

In addition to the cervical cancer screening camp, the Department of Pathology and Lab Medicine organized Poster and Rangoli competitions on April 5th, 2023, as part of the foundation week activities. The topics for the poster competition were "Screening & Prevention of Cancer Cervix" and "Next Generation Pathologists in the Era of Precision Medicine". The theme for the Rangoli competition was "Art in Pathology". The topics were selected to encourage innovative ideas and raise awareness on the provided subjects. A total of 11 candidates participated in the activities.
