Gurugram Police unearth Rs 56 cr cyber crime fraud; 53 held

The Gurugram Cyber Police Station of Haryana Police have arrested 53 persons for their alleged involvement in cyber fraud cases during the month of October. The Police official spokesperson said that 12,669 complaints have been filed against these accused across various states in India, including Haryana. The investigation has revealed a widespread network of cyber fraudsters utilizing 74 SIM cards to perpetrate fraudulent activities amounting to a staggering Rs 56 crore.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Gurugram, Siddhant Jain said that during Cyber Crime Awareness Month, a concerted effort resulted in the arrest of 53 accused across 22 distinct cases, showcasing the proactive approach of the Cyber Police in safeguarding the digital realm.

Out of the 12,669 complaints received, 469 cases have been registered nationwide, with 22 cases specifically in Gurugram. The Gurugram Cyber Police, has successfully unraveled a total defrauded amount of Rs 55,86,46,215, he added.

DCP further said that the investigation is currently underway, meticulously scrutinizing the devices recovered from the arrested cybercriminals. Gurugram Police is collaborating closely with the Indian Cyber Crime Co-ordinate Center (I4C) to share crucial information related to mobile phones, SIM cards, laptops, or other electronic devices. This collaborative effort plays a vital role in identifying the extent of fraud incidents, the affected states, the amount defrauded, and the number of victims.

Jain urged the public to exercise extreme caution and avoid sharing personal information related to their bank accounts under any circumstances. Such preventive measures are essential to safeguard individuals from falling prey to cyber fraud, contributing significantly to the collective effort to curb cybercrimes.

As part of this ongoing effort, Haryana Police is intensifying its crackdown on cybercriminals through enhanced collaboration with bank nodal officers, reinforcing its commitment to ensuring the security of individuals and their financial assets, he added.
