Bitter political slugfest ensued after the Union Home Ministry on Friday deployed National Security Guard commandos to defuse explosives recovered by the Central Bureau of Investigation at Sandeshkhali leading the Trinamool Congress to term it all an "election-time high drama in order to influence voters" while the BJP promptly demanding Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's resignation.

Earlier on the day the CBI dug up about 10-15 guns of foreign make and a large quantity ammo including explosives hidden under the floor of the house of a local TMC worker Abu Taleb Molla, 55 known for his proximity to arrested TMC strongman Sheikh Shahjahan.

As the Home Ministry was informed about the cache a posse of NSG commandos were deployed for recovering the explosives and defuse them. A robot was used for the purpose.

Sandeshkhali a riverine semi-urban block in North 24 Parganas has been on the national news since January 4 when the supporters of Shahjahan roughed up the officials of Enforcement Directorate and in subsequent weeks local women rose up in rebellion against alleged mass land- grab sexual harassment by Shahjahan's men. The two incidents were not totally unrelated.A riverine island at the mouth of Sunderbans bordering Bangladesh the investigating agencies were taking the issue of recovery of foreign made arms seriously. The officials were tight-lipped about the class of explosives.

"Information were received about a stockpile of arms and explosives at certain locations at Sarberia village in Sandeshkhali area of Najat Police Station area … subsequent raids yielded the stockpile of arms and explosives," police officials who too backed the agencies in their operation

said adding "while the arms were found hidden under the floor inside a room the explosives were kept inside a box in an adjacent semi-pucca room.
