The president of Ramakrishna Mission Swami Smarananda Maharaj passed away on Tuesday evening. He was 95.
The monk was suffering from a number of old-age related ailments.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had visited him early this month at Ramakrishna Mission Seva Pratisthan where he was undergoing treatment.
Born in 1929 in the State of modern Tamil Nadu he was the 26th president of the Ramakrishna order. He joined Ramakrishna order in 1952 and was granted Sanyasa in 1956.
